Preventing injury and improving performance

Sports massage focuses on tight muscles. It involves the application of therapeutic massage and stretching to assist performance and recovery from physical activity.

It involves the manipulation of soft tissue. Sports massage is designed to assist in correcting problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused by repetitive and strenuous physical activity.

Sports massage, before and after exercise, can help to prevent injury, improve performance and increase flexibility. There are different types of sports massage based on when the massage is given:

  • During the training programme (maintenance) – to correct soft tissue dysfunction
  • Before competition (pre-event) – to aid preparation by loosening muscles
  • After competition (post-event) – to help recovery by improving circulation and reduce muscle tension.

Deep Tissue Massage

Soothing chronic aches and pains

Deep tissue massage involves applying firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). It’s used for chronic aches and pains in areas such as neck, shoulders and upper back, lower back, legs, and shoulders.

Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle “knots” or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

Therapeutic Massage 

Relieve stress and promote well-being

Relaxation massage is a hands on therapy using gentle manual therapy techniques to increase blood flow, release off tension and relieve stress. Relaxation massage will also help anxiety, aid relaxation, sleep and promote well-being.

Jessie trained to do sports and therapeutic massage in 2018. Having been an elite athlete herself, Jessie understands the importance of massage. It was through this experience that Jessie first found the benefit of Sports massage, and what ultimately inspired her to pursue it as her career. As well as sports massage, she also offers therapeutic massage to combat stress and improve well being.
